CONVERSATION:
Gail Micca’s setting included lots of great prizes for Casino Night.
Marlene Heller’s background was a colorful afghan she herself made.
Bill Palmer said that Halyna and Mike Stegura are back in their apartment in Trexler Park for a few weeks.
Gwenn & Gary Englehardt are in their Kutztown home. The construction around their NJ home is way too noisy.
Len Salines said that there are at least 10 bottles of alcoholic beverages in each basket of cheer to be auctioned at Casino Night.
OPENING:
President Gail Micca started the meeting at 7:30 A.M.
Amir Famili gave a very nice invocation.
Ron Coleman led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S.
Marlene Heller led us in the recitation of the Four-way Test, and added “Is it Fun?”

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
AWRC JOB OPPORTUNITIES:
Vice President to be President for the 2024-25 Rotary Year.
Foster Parents Breakfast one-time event chair. Without a lead Rotarian we may have to put this off unfortunately.
Dining Out Chair is needed. AW Rotarians have a history of going to local restaurants every month or so for supper and fellowship. We need a leader for this.
AWRC HOLIDAY PARTY:
Pres. Gail said that we are holding our annual Christmas party at Twin Lakes C.C. The date is Friday, Dec. 2nd.
We need volunteers to work on this event’s planning.
YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT:
Pres. Gail attended the district Y.E. orientation session in Reading. There were 8 from our district, and 18 total students that attended.
All of us should consider taking Sam to see our country. Please be sure that your Youth Protection status is current. This effort might take a few hours, but it is vital to protect our youth.
FRESH FLOWER SALES:
Pres. Gail said that they raised $280 selling flowers.
HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP:
Sharon Goldner will lead this event on Oct 8th. It will run from 9:30 A.M. to about 1:00 P.M.
GREEN THUMB GARDEN:
Our garden is giving us great produce to go to food pantries. We should have two more harvests.
CASINO NIGHT:
This Friday !!! We have about 115 people expected to attend. There will be food for 150. The Buttered Crumb is our caterer.
POTATO PROJECT HARVEST DATE:
PDG Bob Hobaugh last week said that the whole district sends volunteers to help the annual harvesting of potatoes on Sept 24 from 10 A.M. until 2 P.M. About 200,000 lbs will be donated to food pantries.
GIVE & GROW FUNDRAISER:
Katrina Sundstrom asked for support of this fundraiser at Eight Oaks Distillery on Sept. 24 from 2 PM. There will be a cornhole tournament, and a silent auction too.
9/11 HEROES RUN:
This will be on Sept 25 at Parkland H.S. Race starts at 2 P.M. Come early.
MULTI-CLUB MEMBERSHIP EVENT:
“Conversations Over Cornhole”, will happen on October 19th. It will be a cornhole tournament and get-together in Center Valley at the Stone Fam Cellars and Vineyards from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M.
POLIO ERADICATION RUN / WALK etc:
The Lehigh Valley Passport RC is managing the district Purple Pinkie 5K RACE event which will be on October 15th.:
The other activities planned for this year include non-competitive walks, runs and bike trips “On The Trails” in the Reading area. The Pottstown RC is managing the day. Registration is $40, and includes a lunch.
KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:
Jean Masiko needs volunteers for October 15th.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:
Amir Famili said that they are building 8 houses right now, and their dedication will be soon.
They always can use volunteers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And they will teach you any needed skills.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Sue Weber is happy to be here today, and is pleased with the Y.E. program.
Gail Micca is happy that Casino Night is this week.

NEXT MORNING MEETING:
Wednesday September 28 IN PERSON at Madeline’s in Fogelsville starting at 7:30 A.M. Come early and talk to each other.
Our program will be Lois Keller, Executive Director - Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley to provide an Educational Overview of Crime Victims Council of Lehigh Valley and their Service to Our Community.
PROGRAM:
Today was a Club Assembly with President Gail leading a discussion on our RC meeting times, days of the week, locations and contents. She specifically asked whether we might consider replacing the first meeting of the month (Zoom) with an evening meeting, a lunch meeting, a tour of a local business, etc.
We broke up into 5 groups for 10 minutes of discussion and then heard these reports:
Laurie Grube said her group likes breakfast meetings and an occasional dinner meeting -- if it is after 5 PM for those who still work.
Ralph Witcher reported that they are OK with a dinner meeting. They also suggested we visit other local RCs.
Marlene Heller reported that there is a concern about having to drive after dark to attend evening meetings as Winter approaches. She said that a lunch meeting would be good. They like dining out more often, and they like tours.
Jeanne Shipe reported that evening meetings are OK, as well as tours.
Pres. Gail proposes that we consider establishing a team of 12 members, with each member responsible for a special meeting in one month starting in January 2023. This allows 3 months for the first meeting to be planned. Ralph likes this approach.
It was noted that wherever we go we need to have a meeting room and food and drink that is affordable.
