Today’s meeting was held at the Parkland High School Library, as we do each year to meet with the Parkland Interact club students.
President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at about 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Rev. Jeff Kistler gave a very nice invocation.
Pres. Mike asked us to join in with the whole school reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S.
Pres. Mike introduced Sue Weber who said very nice things as she introduced Katheryn Soldridge who is the PHS Advisor to the Interact club.
Katheryn recognized AW Rotarian Richard Sniscak who is the Superintendent of the Parkland School District. And she introduced Habib, the President of the PHS Interact club.
NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:
John Tacca, sponsored by VP Amir Famili, was inducted as AWRC’s newest Active member. Chuck Ehninger conducted the formal ceremony, and Amir added the lapel pin. Both Amir and John said a few words. This is the first “Corporate” membership for us. Welcome John !
STUDENT OF THE MONTH:
Barbara Kistler introduced the March Student of the Month, RJ Corba, and read his record of service and education. See separate article.
TEMPTING TASTES 4:
Gwenn Carr distributed materials promoting TT4 and asked the Interact students to once again support this great fundraiser.
SCHEDULE:
President Mike announces upcoming events at our meetings and a list of them appears on our website. A list of the appropriate contact information appears each week in the A-W bulletin.
THURSDAY EVENING MEETING:
April 12th at 5:30 P.M. at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville is the next meeting.
TT 4 MEETING:
The next TT4 project meeting will be at the Holiday Inn on Friday, April 6th starting at 7:30 AM.
TT4 AUCTION REVIEW PARTY -- APRIL 8th:
Gwenn and Gary are having a party at their home on Sunday, April 8th from 4 to 7 PM. The admission fee is one or more items to be auctioned off at TT4. Snacks will be served.
Dorothy Bloom needs some volunteers to help at the registration tables.
PUERTO RICO SUPPORT:
Herb and Ronnee Klotz visited Puerto Rico and St. Marten during their cruise and were disturbed by the obvious needs to recover still from the hurricane devastation. Herb said that there now is a “Donor Advised Fund” set up with the Rotary Foundation to accept donations to help in this relief effort. See separate article for check writing instructions.
ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS (EWB) EVENT:
April 15, 2018 from 4 to 7 P.M. at DeSales University is the annual EWB fundraiser Auction and Dinner. AW Rotarians as EWB partners are encouraged to attend and enjoy the fellowship and bid in the auctions.
NEXT WEEK:
Our Greeter will be Ralph Witcher and the program is the annual FOUR WAY TEST SPEECH CONTEST, which had been postponed because of a snowstorm.
There were no drawings today, and no “Happy Dollars” today, since we were with the Interact students at Parkland.
PROGRAM:
Our program today began with Interact President Habib giving a review of the many projects of the club this last year. These include:
October Homecoming
Sponsoring Christmas for Foster children
Helped AWRC operate the October Purple Pinkie event
Collected used books for reassignment
Had 3 students win the Rockette competition
Worked with AW at TT3
Snack Packing volunteering
Raised funds for a student with cancer; she’s OK now
Money was raised for children with cancer
And going forward they will be doing:
Food Drive
Help at TT4 on May 6th
Park clean-up
A video of the pictures associated with the year’s activities was shown for us. It was well done and brought some laughs too.
DANCE PARTNERS: S.O.M. RJ and Conner Baker recreated their famous Rockette high kick step for us.
Sue Weber congratulated and thanked all of the students of our Parkland Interact club.
Ralph Witcher commended the Interact students for their year-round good works.
CLOSING:
We closed our meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
