PROGRAM:
The program today was our Youth Exchange student, Andrea from Croatia giving her “year-end” talk. Andrea began by reading a thank you letter from her to all AW Rotarians. She exuded happiness and occasional dismay at having to leave us now that the school year is over.
Her letter said that she arrived not knowing anybody and since has made many, many best friends. She also noted that she was now a graduate of the Northwestern High School, and she finished as number 14 out of 194 seniors.
Andrea said that Rotary really does connect the world. She thanked her two host families who made her part of their families. She thanked us for her running in the Purple Pinkie 5K Race, and for the chance to help with Snack Packing. Andrea closed her letter by thanking us “for the inspiration.”
Andrea then showed us pictures of her activities since arriving here last August. She first observed that swimming in the Atlantic ocean is far different from swimming in the Adriatic Sea. Here you do not go too far from the shore.
Andrea met other Y.E. students at the many district monthly Y.E. events. They went to NYC and to Philadelphia. She loves NYC and went back twice more.
Thanksgiving – a U.S. event -- was great. She ate everything in sight. Then she helped out with the interview process for next year’s Outbound students.
Andrea said that being in the Drama Club was an awesome experience. And on her second trip to NYC she saw a Broadway Show. Then she said that Christmas was amazing here. She loves playing “board” games.
In February Andrea went rock climbing, and she was a winner in a “lip sync” contest. And in March she learned how to ski. March 30, 2019 was her 18th birthday. Earlier in March she was in a Volleyball Tournament.
Easter in April was with two other Y.E. students for a truly international dinner. And she loved our Tempting Tastes event. And early in May she attended the annual District Conference in Allentown. In June she had four great days in Niagara Falls.
Next Andrea is going to Camp Neidig and after that to the Beach. This Summer she will tour with a group and visit France, Germany and Spain. When she settles back home she will join a Rotaract Club.
Andrea will leave for home on July 10. She plans to be with us at our meeting that morning.
CLOSING:
P-E Amir closed our meeting by our reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
