Today was a Zoom meeting with 28 folks on line.
Pres. Gail Micca rang the bell to open the meeting at 7:30 A.M. And she welcomed us all.
GUESTS ON LINE:
Nick Millward, friend of the club; Helen Papathanasion, almost a member; Jill Kearney, almost a member; and Andrea Danik, our former Exchange Student from Croatia.
OPENING:
Ernie Boll gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Len Salines.
Then Pres. Gail led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. She then led us in the recitation of the Four Way Test to which we added “Is it fun?”
Pres. Gail noted that Marlene Heller suggests that we return to having stories from our members re how the 4-Way test was used in their lives.
AWRC HISTORY STORY:
Past President, Geoff Legg, delivered today’s story about our History of Vocational Service.
Pres. Gail is interested in creating a committee with a Chair to have us do more vocational service events.
CELEBRATIONS:
Pres. Gail noted a Happy Birthday for Andrea.
Pres. Gail displayed the list of January member celebration events. Jeanne Shipe’s birthday is today so we tried to sing Happy Birthday -- not good.
Chuck Ehninger started in Rotary in 1976 in Indianapolis, IN. He has been with AWRC since June of 2004.
AWRC 60 YEAR CELEBRARION PARTY”
The event planning committee will meet via zoom this Sunday.
Pres. Gail said that we are making a video to commemorate our 60th charter night. An interview with Andrea is the first part.
HAPPY DOLLARS & STUFF:
The Webers now are in Hilton Head having driven for 2 days.
Len Salines was on the line with us having had serious knee surgery just a week ago. He said he has little pain now.
Ralph Witcher also is a skier, and he claims that he is very good at falling down.
Ron Coleman said that he woke up this morning and saw his shadow and went back to sleep.
Ralph Witcher is happy that their daughter, Rachel, is back in the U.S. to stay.
Ernie Boll is happy that Len Salines is not in pain. Gail Micca and Chuck Ehninger echoed that sentiment. Then Len said he agreed.
Geoff Legg donated $5 to hope for a plan to have Dr. Len clean his teeth.
Tom Friday is happy that he finally got some covid rapid tests.
Helen Papathanasion donated $10 in happiness for joining the meeting today.
Herb Klotz is happy to report that he and 87 others from the Northeast districts held a Membership Planning meeting last evening that was very productive.
VOTE FOR AWRC LEADERS FOR 2022-23:
The vote will take place next Wednesday Jan 19 as part of our Club Assembly. We still need volunteers or nominees for Vice President, Treasurer, Membership Committee Chair and Fundraising Committee Chair. Please step up. It’s painless.
3RD NEIGHBOR BASEBALL:
Nick Millward reports that all of the donated equipment is in 17 boxes on their way to Mongolia. Delivery is expected in May.
If you have not yet sent in your promised funds to cover the freight, please do so soon.
EXCHANGE STUDENT UPDATE:
Andrea said that she now is in college in Croatia that is part of Rochester Institute in NY State. Next year she will be in NYS for a semester.
Also she is working for an auto manufacturer that makes super high speed electric cars.
She is an honor student and is a member of a local Rotaract Club.
PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. DATE:

KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:
The next event is on Saturday January 15. The following are the dates for the Kingdom Life Food Bank Drive through food distribution through June 2022:

Gail Micca said that the next packing will be Wednesday, January 19.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
The new pick-up site location now is at Asbury Church.
The January 11th deliveries were by Barbara & Jeff Kistler.
January 18 deliveries will be by Ron Coleman and Gail Micca.
Volunteers still are needed.
CASINO NIGHT POSTPONED:
The vote was unanimous to reschedule for September. The new date is FRIDAY 9-23 from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M.
DISTRICT CONFERENCE:

STATUS OF MORNING MEETINGS:
Due to the rise in Covid cases, we will be meeting via zoom for the entire month of January. In February, we plan to be back to meeting each 2nd and 4th Wednesday at our new location - the Parkland Community Library.
NEXT MORNING MEETING:
Wednesday January 19 via Zoom starting at 7:30 a.m. Come on at 7:15 and chat. Our program will be our AWRC Executive Board & Project Chairs as a Club Assembly: Quarter Business Overview.
MEETING SITE CHANGE:
Our February and March in-person meeting will take place at the Parkland Community Library at 4422 Walbert Ave, Allentown. This was arranged by Debbie Jack.
Stephanie Fenstermacher of the Buttered Crumb will supply some breakfast food.
We need some volunteers to set up a coffee station each time.
PROGRAM:
Classification Talk by Sharon Goldner.
Program Chair, Ralph Witcher said that both he and Gail Micca have known Sharon Goldner for many years. Gail said it was Sharon -- the farm girl -- that saved Gail’s garden some years ago. That now is the AWRC Green Thumb garden.
Sharon thanked all for what we do. She has had many challenges in the last year.
Sharon was born and raised on a dairy farm in Whitewater, WI, a town of about 10,00 population. She has 5 sisters and one brother. She was the only one to go to college.
Sharon lost her Father, and then her Mother to covid19 in the last year. She talked about them both.
Sharon earned her BS in Dietetics at the University of Wisconsin, Steven’s Point and completed an ADA (American Dietetic Association) accredited internship in Detroit, MI.
As a Registered Dietitian for 18 years, she worked as a clinician and Clinical Nutrition Manager in the hospital network and also had an independent outpatient Nutrition practice. She also taught weight loss and other nutrition related classes to all ages.
Sharon’s husband, Michel, is a D.O. Physician here in the LV. They were married in 1988. They have two terrific children.
Hannah is 28 and earned a PhD from Penn State.
Adam is 23 and works at J.P. Morgan in Philadelphia. Adam played Lacrosse in High School and then college where he set some records.
He then attended Wharton School of Finance.
Sharon lives a healthy lifestyle and is an avid runner for over 45 years. She also practices a variety of yoga styles.
Sharon enjoys many hobbies including anything in nature, especially gardening. She loves art, and the freedom of painting (usually using acrylics), creating beautiful home decor and music.
As a breast cancer survivor, she takes part in many meaningful activities to help improve the lives of others. She raises money for the Cancer Center.
