Allentown West Rotary Club
Meeting, Notes – May 15, 2019
Today was an Open House meeting that lacked candidates for membership unfortunately. So we did something else.
Len Salines did a great job as the acting Sergeant-at-Arms today. He collected the money and took attendance.
Our Greeter today was Gail Micca and she did a marvelous job.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting and welcomed all. Then Gail Micca gave a very nice invocation.
GUESTS:
Janet Kolepp, President Bethlehem Morning Star RC, and our District Governor Nominee.
Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the 4 Way Test, followed with our saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.
Pres. Jeanne then used a slide show to review the many and varied community projects that AW Rotarians make happen throughout the year. The list is impressive.
PURPLE PINKIE 5k 2018:
When the pictures from the PP 5K last October came into view, Race Director John Scott reminded us that the event raised a net of $38,500 from D7430 Rotarians for Polio eradication.

PROGRAM:
Pres. Jeanne introduced our District Governor Nominee, Janet Kolepp. Janet discussed a number of Rotary issues as she filled in as our guest speaker this morning. She began by saying that Herb Klotz warned her about being asked to speak at the last minute.
First she explained the structural changes made in her RC, Bethlehem Morning Star. The President-elect passed away quite suddenly last month. They decided to divide the responsibilities of running their RC next year across four individuals to share the load. This is different but is a way to cope.
On the subject of membership growth Janet said that our district’s four largest RCs are Bethlehem, Emmaus, Pottstown and Doylestown. And they all have something in common. Each has a critical mass of vibrancy and energy that keeps things running and getting done. There is no one answer or magic secret to growing a RC.
Janet also explained that during the next RY our district Public Image Chair, David Akers, will institute an optional system for automatic posting of items to each RC’s Facebook twice each week. There will be two training sessions on the subject.
Thank you, Janet, for sharing your ideas and answering our questions. We appreciate your input.
CLOSING:
Pres. Jeanne closed our meeting by our reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
