Pres. Jeanne announced that our AW Rotarians received a 2018-10 District Governor Award from Cindy Hornaman for meeting some specific goals. Congratulations, folks.
Jeanne also reviewed some of the learning process for RC Presidents as they start their work. She said the experience was phenomenal. She thanked everyone for their continuous support with a mention of Barb Kistler and Bill Palmer. Jeanne encourages all who have not yet served to become our club President.
Jeanne had Amir Famili come forward as we began the official changeover. She first presented Amir with the Oil Painting of a mountain in Japan that traditionally is kept with our President each year. She also presented Amir with the Ukrainian Easter egg to keep for the year which is for good health and prosperity.
Jeanne then presented the AW Gavel to Amir. This signifies his becoming our new club President. Amir then used a series of slides to present his story.
President Amir gave a bouquet of 12 roses to Jeanne, one for each month of service as our President. He then presented her with a gift card as a thank you from our members. And we all stood and applauded Immediate Past President Jeanne.
Amir said that AW is a very vibrant Rotary club. He noted that we have produced 3 PDGs and our current District Governor. And he said he was pleased that Bill Palmer had changed tables this morning.
Amir said it was noteworthy that he is the first AW President not born in the U.S. And he is the first Muslim to hold the position in AW. And he claims that he has no accent; it is we who talk funny.
Amir has worked for 35 years in corporate America. Some of that time was with DG Herb at Air Products. He asks that if anyone has issues about our club to please discuss them with him. He has a “Why not?” response to new ideas. He is an Engineer, and he wants to serve others.
Amir explained that he does not drink alcohol, and cannot purchase it for others nor receive it as a gift. And he follows a Muslim diet.
Amir said that he will be asking members to take on some more responsibilities as we go forward. He announced that Mustafa Jaffer is the new AW Membership Chair, and that DG Herb will look after the RI Foundation issues and global grants for us.
BUDGET PROJECTS / PROGRAMS REVIEW:
The July 17 and July 24 regular morning meetings will be used to review the requested project and program funding for 2019-20.
Gwenn Carr distributed a completed application form and an explanation of the new procedure. This new effort is to share the reasons for how the AW monies we raise are being used. Looking at 2019-20 it appears that out historical spending may be more than the funds we have on hand.
Once you submit a funding request you will be allowed 10 minutes at a club meeting to explain it. The club members will later rate their own degree of support for a new request on a scale of 1 to 5. The weighted results will provide direction to our board members who then will establish the total budget.
CLOSING:
Pres. Amir closed our meeting by our reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
