There was no Zoom meeting this morning. Yet there is information to be shared.
As we start a new year President Ralph Witcher extends his sincere best wishes to us all for a happy and prosperous new year. We should feel good about the many ways AW Rotarians served so many people and causes during the 2020 year, in spite of a multitude of obstacles.
WHAT ROTARY MEANS TO ME:
The mutual support from members of our Rotary family is outstanding. Nine years ago my wife Yvette passed away. Shortly thereafter Dave Dries created and ran a transportation committee of AW Rotarians with each taking one week a month to transport me to and from our Rotary meetings. Dave took the first and the 5th Wednesday – when that came up.
The result was that in all the years since, and with committee members changing, I attended every Wednesday morning meeting except the two when I was ill. Rotarians also transported me to the monthly AW Board meetings, and the monthly District leadership meetings. I also got to many of the Thursday evening meetings.
With my lousy vision you do not want me driving at all. This support is a great service that Rotarians have performed unnoticed and quietly for nine years. Wow! Thank you all.
AW GOOD WORKS SUMMARY:
During the 2020 year our service efforts actually increased because of the covid19 problems. There were more people to feed and more produce to grow and to distribute. Here is a partial list:
Hundreds of snack packs were prepared and distributed to Parkland C.A.R.E.S. and LCCC.
Hundreds of Lbs. of fresh produce were both purchased and grown in our new garden, and delivered to the Lowhill Food Pantry.
Rotary volunteers helped handout food items to The Kingdom Life Food Center clients.
Gift cards and holiday gift bags were donated, and prepared, for the Lowhill Food Pantry clients.
Winter coats and donated luggage was delivered to the Valley Youth Center.
Funds were donated to cover the shipping costs of supplies to the Mongolian flood victims.
Annual Scholarships were awarded.
AW Rotarians performed Rt. 222 Highway Clean-ups.
Multiple High School students were cited as Student of the Month and given gift cards.
AW funds were donated to support many other local projects.
AW funds also went to support the EWB Hospital project in Sierra Leone.
A $1,000 grant was obtained for equipment for Meals on Wheels.
Well Done, AW Rotarians!!
