As your president, one of my greatest joys is observing the inner workings of our club: our members, our leadership, our connections with the community and the broader world through Rotary. Our meeting today left me with a sense of belonging to an incredible body of intelligent people. I thank you all for your attendance, your interest and your questions for our excellent speaker.

You all add unique perspectives and I am filled with gratitude for your generous contributions to our club. Whether you show up at a club project, plan for an upcoming event, bring a friend to a meeting, share a Facebook post, help with the myriad tasks that bring our weekly meetings together, contribute to a committee, or fulfill a position on the board, we are all in this together. We make our club great, and I appreciate you.

I look forward to seeing you all at Madeline's next week – bring a friend and introduce them to the wonderful world of Rotary!

Gail

THE WORLD NEEDS MORE ROTARIANS

Make it your business to share your Rotary story! When you meet someone who isn't aware of all Rotary has to offer personally, professionally, and to the world, it's an opportunity. Let them know you are one of the 1.2 million people in the world who make the world better by serving the community.

Offer them the chance to join us for an activity or a meeting to learn more. If you don't ask, they won't know! Be a Rotary Ambassador!

Allentown West Rotary  Club
Zoom Meeting Notes – January  19, 2022

Today was a Zoom meeting with 25  folks  on line.

CHAT TIME:
Sue & Bill Weber are enjoying the Hilton Head sunshine but not the cold air.

Ernie Boll had a nice party in Arizona last evening to celebrate his 87th birthday tomorrow.

Marlene & Gary Heller and friends will be traveling around Arizona starting mid-February.

Jill Kearney said that AWRC is her “Happy Place.”

Ron Coleman said that it was fun doing Meals on Wheels deliveries yesterday.

Len Salines is getting around with crutches and a wheel chair, and is trying to get back to work some.

Pres. Gail Micca rang the imaginary bell to open the meeting at 7:30 A.M.  And she welcomed us all.

GUESTS ON LINE:
Nick Millward,  back in  Kyrgyzstan and friend of the club; Helen Papathanasion, almost a member; Jill Kearney, almost a member; and Nicole McGalla, guest of the club.

OPENING:
Sue Weber gave a very nice invocation.
Then Pres. Gail led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. She  then led us in the recitation of the Four Way Test to which we added “Is it fun?”

EXAMPLE OF THE 4-WAY TEST:
Pres. Gail said that since November it has been difficult for her to do her 60 bike miles each week that her sponsors expected. So she plans to be fair and extend her bike riding when she can to make up the shortfall.

AWRC HISTORY STORY:
Past Asst. Governor, Sue Weber,  delivered today’s story about our History of Women in Rotary.

CELEBRATIONS:
Pres. Gail displayed the list of January member celebration events.  Ernie Boll and Geoff Legg have birthdays soon, so we again tried to sing Happy Birthday. We tried.

HAPPY DOLLARS:
Marlene Heller is most happy that after 677 days of remote schooling, her two grandkids attended indoor classes yesterday  --  and they came home happy.

Jill Kearney is $10 happy that AW Rotarians are so welcoming.

Sue Weber is happy that there is no snow in Hilton Head. And the H.H. Sunset RC sends us greetings.

Amir Famili has a report about the Lowhill Food Pantry we support. During 2021 we delivered 5,950 lbs. of produce to them. Our cost was $3,400.

Also Amir did a program about AWRC’s projects for a RC in Germany. That club was surprised and asked how we find time to do all of those things. They just write checks.

Nick Millward is back in Kyrgyzstan and is happy to have delivered hundreds of letters to the Babushka group. He also delivered 20 bracelets that are for the children.

Gail Micca donated $25 with 24 for her daughter’s 24th birthday, and $1 for their daughter’s 2 Art shows.

Nicole McGalla happily reported that last evening at the Parkland H.S. b.o.d. meeting AW Rotary was mentioned many times, e.g. snack packing.

Herb Klotz noted that the NEW RCs starting in districts around us have at least 50% women members.

Ralph Witcher is happy to reports that their son Seth has a new album out at the Emmaus Theater. And their son Solomon is turning 21. Ralph added $10 as a thank you to Jill Kearney.

Stephanie Fenstermacher of the Buttered Crumb will supply some breakfast food.
We need some volunteers to set up a coffee station each time.

PROGRAM:
Today was our AWRC Executive Board & Project Chairs as a Club Assembly with a  Quarter Business Overview. Pres. Gail began by asking Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt to report on our Finances.

Chris described the key items in our Operating account, our Foundation account, and our  special account. He noted that Happy Dollars and 50:50 events are starting to bring in some extra funds. He also noted that we paid a one-time donation to both the Veteran’s Memorial, and the STEM-YEA program.

Chris said that we are not doing out dictionary project anymore.  These funds will go to the new Kindergarten book program.

At 7 months YTD we have about $15,000 uncommitted. There will be at least $8,400 going toward our 2022-23 projects.

Our AWRC Secretary, Michelle Steiner, explained that for our 60th anniversary party she is putting together a special AW Member Directory complete with our info and a picture. If you do not have a photo posted in our ClubRunner database, please have one ready for Michelle when she asks. ALSO, please have an answer when she asks “What do you love about Rotary?”

PDG Herb Klotz reported on Membership. YTD we have added 4 new members, lost two and have two in line to induct. Our goal for June 30, 2022 is to have 65 Active members. So we need to recruit 8 more.

We are considering holding a Pickle Ball tournament for many non-Rotarians as a recruiting event.

PDG Herb Klotz reported on AWRC giving to the Rotary Foundation. Our YTD for PolioPlus is over our goal. Our goal for the Annual Fund this year is $10,000 and we are only at $5,000 so far.

Herb said we have until March 31 to apply for next year’s District Grants. Please tell Herb or Gail your suggested projects to fund.

Public Image Chair, Marlene Heller, asks that we share the Membership messages we post on Facebook.

Service Chair, Kathy Ott, noted that at the District level, April 30th has been selected as a Rotary Service Day.
The STEM-YEA project is full steam ahead. Training of RC representatives will start soon.

Program Chair, Ralph Witcher,  reminds us to suggest speakers for our future meeting.

Youth Exchange Co-Chair, Sue Weber said we will be sending out student Lauren DeMay to study abroad. There still is no info on us receiving an inbound student this year.

Sue noted that former exchange student Ellie from Peru is planning to visit at Easter.

CLOSING:
Pres. Gail led us in reciting our motto “One profits most who  serves best.”, rang the imaginary bell and adjourned the meeting.
